Museum ‘Kortrijk 1302’ has already received 3,000 visitors
It was hoped for 100 visitors a day, but there are about 150. The big announcement campaign will also only start in September.
In the former Church of Our Lady, the story of the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302 is central, but in a contemporary way. The county of Flanders is also considered: its origin and growth of the territory, and the pivotal points in its history.
Rudy Vandeputte, Experience Museum 1302: “The experience table completely absorbs the visitor. Here you get a layered and nuanced picture. When I stand on the right side you hear the story from the point of view of the French King, on the other side it happens from the position of the Count of Flanders. We really want to make it clear that in this conflict both sides have their own reasons. As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle.”
The museum is free to visit every day. In the meantime, the works for the Abby site a little further on at Groeninge Abbey are on schedule. Abby will be a mixture of an art hall and a museum, with an open studio, a café and a public garden. The real construction of the exhibition site will start in a year’s time.
