Volkert van der Graaf, the murderer of Pim Fortuyn, has rejected the invitation to be a guest in Ruud de Wild’s podcast. “It’s not going through, because he doesn’t want to.”
The murder of Pim Fortuyn in May 2002 shocked the whole country. Just before he was shot dead, the politician was a guest on Ruud de Wild’s program for two hours. The presenter has suffered a trauma as a result. Meanwhile, the murderer of Pim, Volkert van der Graaf, has been a free man for two and a half years.
Volkert doesn’t want to
Volkert has never given a media appearance. After his release, he announced that he had served his sentence and that the matter was thus settled for him. “Everyone has the why question, but I’m not going to justify myself,” he said in Brandpunt.
Meanwhile, Ruud still has a lot of questions. He would like to ask Volkert in his podcast 30 Minutes Rauw, but the killer of Pim has no sense at all.
‘Is cancelled’
Ruud has received a ‘no’ from Volkert. “It’s not going through, because he doesn’t want to. Volkert van der Graaf does not want any contact at all. Not with anyone actually. I tried that, also through his lawyer, but he also said: ‘Not interested.’”
Is it Ruud? Will we soon see Volkert in Robbert Rodenburg’s Open Card, for example? “No, I don’t think so either. I think he chose it… I think people don’t recognize him at all anymore.”

What would Ruud like to ask him? “Why are you pulling the trigger? He might have done it another way. He could also have glued himself to Fortuyn, to his bald head. Or his car.”

So it remains with the statements that Volkert made against an informant from Brandpunt. “I don’t have to justify anything. I did something, got punished, done you know. I’m pretty sober about it. I also don’t feel like: I want to profile myself. Or in the foreground. That’s just my whole attitude,” he told him.
“The question why? I won’t say anything about that. For myself I know what I did and why. And other people, well…”
