Murder suspect 14-year-old Esmee in court

The man suspected of killing and abusing 14-year-old Esmee from Hazerswoude-Rijndijk must appear in court for the first time on Friday at a public hearing. It concerns a preparatory session in the court in The Hague, in which, among other things, the state of affairs and detention are discussed.

According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), gymnastics teacher Olivier van de G. killed the girl at the end of last year and then moved her body twice. The Leiden resident would initially have put the girl’s remains out of sight against a tree near a public road. He lifted her on his back for this and then he used Esmee’s bicycle to move the body again, according to the Public Prosecution Service.

The victim was found on December 31 by a group of athletes in a play park on Melchior Treublaan in Leiden. The bicycle was found a few days later in the Van Riebeeckhof in Leiden.

The night before New Year’s Eve, Esmee was reported missing. The 32-year-old suspect and the victim were known to each other.

The Public Prosecution Service suspects the man of murder or manslaughter and fornication.
