A suspect in the murder of Migos rapper Takeoff was arrested in early December. As “TMZ” reported, the chief of the Houston Police Department arrested a 33-year-old on Friday, who has now been charged with murder. He also confirmed that a 22-year-old man was arrested last month and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
Takeoff, part of the rap trio Migos, was shot dead at a Houston bowling alley on November 1, 2022. Kirshnik Khari Ball, as Takeoff’s real name was, was 28 years old. He himself was not directly involved in the argument that led to the shooting, he just stood nearby.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner stated, “Takeoff was more than just an entertainer. He was a son, brother, cousin, friend – and a mentor to many in the music industry wouldn’t come back. “This is a significant step in the quest for justice, and I hope it brings some grief to those who loved Takeoff,” Turner said.
Police are said to have tracked down the suspect through reconstruction of the shooting and ballistics evidence. The evaluation of mobile phone data and material from surveillance cameras is said to have helped.
The accused had his lawyers informedthat he did not fatally fire on Takeoff. His lawyer told the court that her client was nervous and concerned that he was being charged with an act he believed he did not commit. He is currently being held on $2 million bail with a new hearing scheduled for December 14.
