Murder and manslaughter are on the rise again in Brabant

This year, 20 people were killed in violence in Brabant. Last year there were 13. One of the most controversial cases this year was the case of Silvana from Hoogeloon. It started as a missing person case, but turned into a murder case for which her ex-partner is in prison. In most cases, the suspect and victim knew each other.

The number of violent deaths in Brabant has fluctuated between 13 and 18 in recent years. Last year and 2019 are known as the quietest in times. The figure for 2022 is relatively low at 20 compared to about twenty years ago. At that time, the annual number of violent deaths in Brabant was between 30 and 40. There used to be more settlements in the underworld.

In the rest of the country, the number of violent deaths is also likely to be higher than in previous years. How that happens is unclear.

liquidation
At least one victim has been liquidated this year. Such a thing rarely happens. The murder of Toon Damen Jr. in Tilburg last summer resembled a settlement, without a suspect.

There is also no suspect (yet) in the fatal robbery in Helenaveen, just like the mistreated Italian who later died in Eindhoven.

More violence
The police investigated more cases of deadly violence, such as family dramas in which no one else was involved and a fatal shot by a police officer in Waalwijk.

In addition, there were traffic accidents in which drivers became suspects. Such as the accident at Oud Gastel in which four people died. The police do not count traffic accidents as murder and manslaughter. Intent and motive to kill someone are almost always missing.

For example, the case of the fatal traffic accident in Lith this summer could become an exception. An argument preceded that. The court will still rule on this, just as it will on the following cases.
