Municipality of De Wolden starts unique talent training for children: ‘This helps everyone to get to know themselves better’

This year, training courses are being given in the municipality of De Wolden that are aimed at recognizing and developing the unique talents of children and young people. Last Wednesday, January 31, the first 60 participants started the training in the Zuidwolde town hall.

After culture councilor Albert Haar and education councilor Mark Turksma provided the opening, Luk Dewulf took the group through the various talents. Every person, young or old, has unique strengths.

Making use of these talents is the key to more energy, resilience and happiness. The municipality believes that it is not about excelling in a particular school subject, but about activities that bring joy and satisfaction. ‘With this method, children develop resilience and self-confidence. After all, the emphasis is on what the child can do. This helps children and young people, actually everyone, to get to know themselves better. The approach to talent development presented in the training is not a rigid method, but can be seamlessly integrated anywhere.”

Oil slick

In 2023, after Luk Dewulf’s lecture, people registered so enthusiastically for this training that it was decided to go for three training rounds. The training courses are given by talent experts Luk Dewulf and Els Pronk, in collaboration with Nienke Bouwman from the IJsselgroep. The training started on January 31 and we are already working hard on a follow-up.

The aim is to create an expanding oil slick so that ultimately every child in De Wolden will be approached in this child-friendly, talent-oriented way; at home, at school, at the sports club and at the music club.
