Loose pavement tiles, incorrectly placed bus shelters or strange thresholds. For most people this is not a big problem, but for people with disabilities these are daily obstacles that they have to overcome.
In Hoensbroek they want to adapt all these kinds of places. And that’s why they enlisted help from Simone Göllesch. She is a wheelchair user due to a nervous disease and has to deal with obstacles on the public road every day.

At the request of the municipality of Heerlen, Simone has documented all obstacles she encounters on the public road in her neighborhood. “We’ve only been going for two weeks, but I’ve already encountered about twenty obstacles,” she says. “For example, exits at sidewalks or awkwardly placed gates.” In consultation with the municipality, we look at what can be easily and quickly adjusted. “You notice that people often don’t realize what obstacles we encounter on our path.”
The aim is for Simone and her fellow sufferers to be able to move on the public road without assistance.
