Work contributes greatly to the integration of status holders. Five municipalities and regions have started offering paid jobs directly to status holders who settle in their municipality from asylum reception. Today the kick-off of this trial took place in the presence of Minister Van Gennip, participating municipalities, employers and a status holder.

The municipalities of Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam, regional municipalities of Meijerstad, Vught, Boxtel and Nuenen and the labor market region of Helmond de Peel are working in various ways to create entry-level jobs for status holders who come to live in their municipality. These tests will be intensively monitored and evaluated this year. From the perspective of status holders, employers and municipalities. The lessons learned are shared with other municipalities, so that they can also start working on starting jobs for status holders.

Better position on the labor market
Status holders who immediately get a paid job upon settling in a municipality can immediately participate and learn the language on the work floor. It strengthens their position on the labor market and accelerates their progression to a regular job. Intensive guidance is necessary, but it is worth it for status holders, employers and society.

Minister Van Gennip: By working, status holders can build an independent existence, learn the language and contribute to society. It is essential that they are given and seize the opportunity to start work as quickly as possible. It would be a missed opportunity if we leave talent unused, because we desperately need everyone in this labor market. Dare to look further! And let’s not stick to the label ‘status holder’. At a certain point someone is simply Dutch, a colleague.

Plan of action: Status holders at work
The trial to immediately offer status holders a job is part of the Action Plan for Status Holders at Work. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment finances this.
