Citizens can apply for a provisional driving license (model 18 months) online from Monday 17 October. They then only have to go to the town hall to collect their driving licence. This is reported by the Federal Public Service Mobility.
“This is a new step in the digitization of the FPS Mobility,” said spokesman Thomas De Spiegelaere. “Just like the DIV . service (for the number plates, ed.) has been digitized in recent years, the same will happen with regard to driving licenses.”
In a first phase, only the provisional driving license without an accompanying person, which is valid for eighteen months, can be applied for online. The intention is that this will gradually be extended to all driving licenses.
If you apply for a driving license online, you must collect it in person at the municipality afterwards. There it is checked that the document is sent to the correct person.
The online application will be available on the website of the FPS Mobility from Monday. QR codes that lead to that application will also be placed in the exam centers and driving schools.
