Local authorities cannot stop using Russian gas for the time being. Many municipalities, water boards and provinces purchase gas from Gazprom, a company affiliated with the Russian state. The governments therefore want to get out of the contracts. But even if this works, it does not mean that all Russian gas will be banned. That is what the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG) said on Thursday.
