Municipal interests and the PvdA in Hoogeveen want the municipality to investigate whether a community center in Wolfsbos is possible. According to the parties, it is a large neighborhood where residents organize many activities. “A neighborhood like this deserves its own community center,” said PvdA faction leader Stan van Eck. For example, he thinks in d’Olde Bieb.
The building of the d’Olde Bieb meeting place currently serves more or less as a community center, says Van Eck. But officially it isn’t. “There is already a tolerance construction. It is high time that Wolfsbos gets a community center with all the rights that come with it.”
The factions will submit a motion with the request to the council during the budget discussion on Thursday. The SP and the VVD have now indicated that they support the call.
The PvdA and Municipal Interests want the board to see whether d’Olde Bieb can become a full-fledged community center. “If for whatever reason the building is not suitable as a community center, we want the council to make a proposal to the council for a new d’Olde Bieb,” adds Municipal Interest Councilor Jacob van der Heide.
Van der Heide states that his party has previously drawn attention to d’Olde Bieb in the past. “It has developed into the beating heart of the neighborhood,” he believes, and it should remain that way.
“In the budget, the council once again confirms how important community centers and village centers are for Hoogeveen society, now and in the future. This is why now is the right time for the PvdA to draw attention to a community center in Wolfsbos,” says Van Eck.
In 2018, the PvdA also committed itself to d’Olde Bieb. The reason was a commotion surrounding the possible termination of the loan situation for the residents’ collective that used the location.
“The council decided at the time to continue the situation as an experiment. It is high time to call the experiment a success and move on to a real community center for Wolfsbos,” concludes PvdA faction leader Stan van Eck. The council will consider the motion on Thursday evening.
