Like last year, Germany’s best skater Lilly Stoephasius won the skateboard final at the Munich Mash. Second was the 14-year-old Brit Lola Tambling. The contest was also a pointer towards the 2024 Olympics.
Lilly Stoephasius did justice to her favorite role at the Munich Mash. After the “Best Trick” competition, the 16-year-old from Berlin also had the best run in the women’s skateboard final. Germany’s only Olympian at the Tokyo 2021 Games had already set the record in the first round with 71 points, which should last until the end. “I’m super happy. It was a great time. To top the weekend with a win is really amazing,” said Stoephasius with the gold medal at BR24Sport.
14-year-old Briton scratches the record
But it was close. The only 14-year-old Brit Lola Tambling made sure that the competition could take place at all by wiping the course dry with her father after the heavy rain in Munich’s Olympic Park. Then she made it extremely exciting in the third round. With a strong, fluid and safe run, she scratched the record – but she didn’t fall. In the end, 0.33 points were missing for gold. Yndiara Asp of Brazil, also an Olympian, was third.
At the Munich Mash, the skaters get three runs to show their best performance. They fly through the course for 45 seconds, try to line up as many good tricks as possible and stand them correctly. Because every fall is punished by the judges with big deductions.
