In recent months, the Amsterdam police have received a ‘handful’ of reports of drug use with a hypodermic needle. The incidents happened in restaurants in the city center. The police cannot say which occasions it is.
A lot is still unclear about the reports. For example, there is no motive, because according to the police no additional criminal offense was committed after the victims felt that they had been drugged. It is also no longer possible to determine whether the victims were indeed drugged and, if so, with what. The police are calling on victims to immediately go to a general practitioner if they suspect it.
The NOS published an interview last week with a 22-year-old woman who said she had been drugged with a needle. The police stopped it AT5/NH Amsterdam a blow to the arm, but can now confirm the multiple reports. According to the NOS two 19-year-old men and a 21-year-old woman also became victims in, among other things, an Amsterdam nightclub. That 21-year-old woman says she was robbed of her bank card and airpods.
The investigation into the reports is still ongoing. However, according to a police spokesperson, it turns out to be difficult to trace suspects, because the reports concern drug use in a crowd. It is also not clear how big the problem really is, because central registration is missing. The phenomenon has been known for some time in Great Britain, France and Belgium.
