After FC Bayern’s 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on match day 3 of the Bundesliga, Thomas Müller commented on the depth of the squad at the German record champions and a possible comeback with the national football team.
“We’ll take the squad that we have. When I look around, I don’t get scared or scared,” emphasized Müller on the “Sky” microphone.
After all, the rather thin squad offers young players the chance to prove themselves with the professionals. “We want a little permeability from below and that’s only available if you have a few spots free from above. Then the boys have to perform when they’re needed,” explained the 33-year-old, who started against Gladbach.
Coach Thomas Tuchel had complained before the game that Bayern’s squad was “a bit thin” and that the composition was “brave”. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, on the other hand, sees a “first-class” squad.
Müller talks about a comeback in the DFB team
Thomas Müller also commented on his non-nomination by national coach Hansi Flick for the DFB team. “I knew that beforehand, there were no surprises. Hansi makes his decisions, I do it very relaxed, like at Bayern Munich,” said the veteran calmly.
“I’ll throw in everything I’ve got and will look for my roles where I can be useful. It can be in the starting XI, it can be an outsider,” added Müller.
The offensive player feels physically very good at the moment. “I’ll keep working and see what happens in the next few months,” said Müller: “German football doesn’t depend on Thomas Müller. I’ll do my part if it’s asked.”
