A mudslide has devastated an outdoor pool in Gersdorf in the Zwickau district.
The mud is half a meter high in the pool and is slowly becoming firm, said Deputy Mayor Steffen Kretschmar on Saturday.
Gardens and streets were also washed over by mud during a storm on Saturday night. The fire department worked all day to clean up.
In the summer pool, an inventory must first be made. It should definitely be restored, said Kretschmar. “We’re on to it. We’re the only ones far and wide who still have a bathroom like this,” he said. The mud was swept from the surrounding fields into the 3,800-inhabitant town between Chemnitz and Zwickau. It was a bad time because the farmers had just tilled the fields, said Kretschmar.
Strong thunderstorms had repeatedly swept over Saxony since Friday afternoon, bringing thunderstorms locally. According to the police, the damage was mostly limited.
