Cádiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma receives a lot of praise in Spain for his adequate performance during the meeting with FC Barcelona. The keeper quickly ran to the side of the field on Saturday to grab a defibrillator when he heard that a fan had gone into cardiac arrest in the supporters’ section behind him.
Ledesma threw the defibrillator into the supporters’ section to the rescuers. The incident happened about 10 minutes before time, after which the game was stopped for more than half an hour. The players even went back to the changing rooms for a while, so that the emergency workers could do their work in the stands. The supporter was successfully resuscitated and taken to hospital. In the remainder FC Barcelona scored two more times: 0-4.
“We are talking about a human life and every human life is more important than a football match,” said Barcelona coach Xavi. “If the CPR was successful, we would resume the match. That’s what happened fortunately.”
