A fire broke out in a corner house on Breestraat in Koog aan de Zaan last night around 1.45 am. The fire brigade spent hours extinguishing the fire and the fire was out around 6 a.m. The house where the fire raged is heavily damaged and therefore uninhabitable. 50 birds also died.

A spokesperson for the safety region said that three people were able to get out of the house in time. One of them, a woman, was taken to hospital because she inhaled smoke, but she has now been able to leave the hospital.

The fire released a lot of smoke. The security region warned via X for nuisance and recommended closing windows and doors. Ten other homes in the residential block on Breestraat were evacuated due to the smoke. “Residents were temporarily sheltered at a hair salon nearby.”

The fire brigade spent hours extinguishing the fire. Parts of the house have been demolished for better access. “It was a complex fire to extinguish,” the spokesperson explained. The fire was in the floors, walls and roof of the house. “Some of the extinguishing work was carried out from outside the house, because it was too dangerous for the fire brigade inside.”

The fire was under control at 5:08 am. The fire was completely out around 6 a.m. and there was no longer any smoke nuisance. “The fire brigade measured all homes, after which the residents of the evacuated homes were able to return home,” the spokesperson said.
