MT Melsungen celebrated a very narrow victory against Kellerkind ThSV Eisenach in the handball Bundesliga. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf recorded their fourth win in a row. For the Bergischer HC, however, the air in the relegation battle is getting thinner and thinner
The Melsungers consolidated their fifth place in the table with 27:26 (15:13). The valiantly fighting Eisenachers remain second to last. The game was evenly balanced throughout the entire game, but in crunch time the favorite from Hesse kept his nerve and managed to maintain a narrow lead over time. Eisenach came very close to winning a point, but missed the chance to equalize with 20 seconds left.
On the day of the match, the Melsungers also announced that the left wing duo had extended their contracts. Florian Drosten signed until 2026, and David Mandic will also remain with the club.
Hanover-Burgdorf well recovered
Meanwhile, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf achieved their fourth Bundesliga success in a row just two days after losing to Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the European League (24:32). Former national coach Christian Prokop’s team, which had recently ended SC Magdeburg’s winning streak, beat TVB Stuttgart 33:30 (14:17).
Leipziger liberation strike
SC DHfK Leipzig has achieved the hoped-for liberation in the relegation battle. After losing six competitive games in a row, coach Runar Sigtryggsson’s team celebrated a landslide victory on Thursday with 33:22 (17:10) against Bergischer HC, which in turn suffered its eighth defeat in a row.
The Icelandic backcourt player Viggo Kristjansson, as the best thrower with 14 goals, played a large part in the success of Leipzig, who now gained 17:25 points to gain some breathing room to avoid the relegation zone. The BHC, for whom Eloy Morante Maldonado (6 goals) scored most often, is in 16th place with 13:33 points.
