Former NHL player Kimmo Timonen, 48, has joined the recycling fertilizer business, reports Future of the countryside.

According to MT, Timonen acts as an investor of Kuopio-based Biopallo Systems oy. In addition, he is the chairman of the board.

The Stanley Cup winner became interested in Biopallo’s new technology six years ago.

– Considering the natural and climatic conditions, this sounded good and I wanted to learn something new, Timonen told MT.

Biopallo Systems, founded in 2001, has created a new technology for the treatment of organic waste, which is based on microbiology. As a result of the processing process, fertilizers and growing media are produced, among other things.

Timonen also owns Vararengasravintolat oy, which runs several restaurants in Kuopio.

Timonen has also invested in KalPa’s background company and thus acts as one of the club’s owners.

He told Iltalehti in March that he does not decide on matters in the club.

– I am not involved in the work of the board, and I am not an active speaker in the affairs of the club. Other people make the daily decisions in KalPa. But of course things will be discussed, Timonen said at the time.

Kimmo Timonen was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2022.
