MR wants freedom to dispose of one’s own body in Belgian Constitution | Inland

On Saturday, in response to the judgment, the PS announced that it wanted to enshrine the right to abortion in the constitution, as well as the woman’s freedom to dispose of her own body. The Parliamentary Committee on Institutional Affairs should consider the file in order to eventually include this fundamental right in Title II of the Constitution.

MR chairman Georges-Louis Bouchez said in ‘La Libre’ on Monday that he wants to enshrine several fundamental rights, such as the right to abortion, but also the right to euthanasia. “Once that principle is enshrined in our Constitution, it will also become a lever against human trafficking and marital rape, and would open up the debate on surrogacy,” Bouchez said.

The MR also wants to revive the reflection on the neutrality of the state, on which the party submitted a proposal to revise the Constitution in the House in March 2020. That should put up a barrier against texts “that question the foundations of our society in the name of religion”.
