Mr. Lord’s Face Unauthorized – Download Now Direct Words: ‘Bitter Till The End’

Mr. Lordi, who turns 50 years old, recalls the ridiculous proportions that media interest in his real face took.

This story is about a person named Mr. Lordi. That’s the name he wants to be known by.

– I’ve really thought about adding Lordi to my first name just so that I can slap my passport on the table and say that I’m not Tomi Putaansuu but Lordi Putaansuu, says Mr. Lordi.

It’s not about having something shameful in your name.

– It’s surprising when I, if I’m a character, still always have to put Tomi Putaansuu as my name. It’s unfathomable. It’s somehow really perverse to look at Lord’s picture, which says Tomi Putaansuu underneath. When it isn’t, he snaps.

So let’s talk about Mr. Lord. It’s not a made-up name, but a nickname. Mr. Lordi was Lordi even before there was a Lordi band.

On February 15, he turns 50. It feels crazy.

Mr. Lordi remembers his own parents’ 50th birthdays. In the 1980s, people celebrated with a suit on and pearls around their necks. The speeches were stiff and little Lordi immortalized the anniversary with a video camera.

It’s come a long way. The tie has gotten lost around the neck only a couple of times in my life. Mr. Lordi does not own the suit now or in the future.

Proud, not humble

Even fifty-year-olds are busy with work and don’t have time to celebrate. Need to prepare for Lord’s upcoming tour, design graphics and sets.

Mr. Lordi is responsible for everything in the band: music and visual appearance.

– I don’t leave it to outsiders. Others do worse, he says.

Mother taught that you can be proud but not arrogant. However, Mr. Lordi does not feel that his attitude is lenient. He simply knows what he’s good at, what he’s really good at.

Mr. Lordi enjoys the creative process. He does from an inner need, not an outer compulsion. Of course, Mr. Lordi is proud of the finished product, but the satisfaction of joy is short-lived.

However, the success rate is not exactly one hundred percent. Published in 2016 MonstereophonicMr. Lord had a clear vision for the cover art of the album, which didn’t work on the square album cover. Deadlines came up and something had to be figured out.

– Then it happened that I only had to take the first idea that came. It was the so-called zero idea. If you compare it to the cover of the previous or especially the next album, it’s really crap.

Lorde’s horror themes sometimes cause resistance. Inka Soveri

At times, Mr. Lord’s graphic horror-themed visions have caused label representatives to hesitate. Resistance only strengthens the artist’s stubbornness.

In their own genre, Lordi’s images are by no means the toughest. However, few monster metal bands enjoy the same level of mainstream recognition. When someone who doesn’t know the genre forms his conclusion based on a three-minute performance, the resulting image does not correspond to reality.

Mr. Lordi does not worry about outsiders’ comments. He hasn’t been on social media for a day. Internet and e-mail access is limited. Invoices come in traditional paper mail.

Real face

Even in civilian life, Mr. Lordi can rest easy. The musician, who hid his face behind a monster mask throughout his career, is unrecognizable without his work uniform.

He has never questioned his decision to keep his face hidden from the public.

– We had members in the band who were saddened after the five-a-side win that they weren’t recognized and couldn’t get past the queue to the bar in the wake of other celebrities. Nowadays, one of the hardest things for band members is to be left alone. When you’re not wearing your work uniform, you can go to the store in complete peace without anyone bothering you, Mr. Lordi explains.

Not everyone has always respected the decision.

Mr. Lord’s face was leaked to the public in 2006. The artist is still bitter about it. Inka Soveri

In the spring of 2006, the media attention received by the recent Eurovision winner was enormous. One day his face graced the covers of magazines in Finland and around Europe.

18 years later, Mr. Lordi still hasn’t forgiven.

– I’m damn long-tempered, I’m bitter about it until the end, he roars.

The published picture was already years old at the time. Mr. Lordi had participated in a magazine story for which photos of his Kiss-themed tattoos had been taken. At that time, band activities did not yet include masks.

After Lordi’s popularity exploded, the photographer sold the pictures.

– This guy, whose name I no longer remember, will forever be on my so-called black list.

The mystique of the masks also gave birth to a special phenomenon. Repeated attempts were made in European newspapers to publish pictures of individuals who were presented as exposed members of the Lord.

– Usually they went directly towards the forest. Sometimes the pictures showed guys from Sonata Arctica or Children of Bodom, sometimes our roudars. The English papers could publish a picture of any Finn with long hair and say that here are the members of Lord. It was absolutely ridiculous.

There are stupid people in the world, Mr. Lordi snorts.

A moment of teaching

Mr. Lordi grew up in his own bubble in Rovaniemi during his youth. When the birthday hero is asked from which difficult moment in life he has learned something, he tells the story of when Lorde’s first single was released. Teaching is not necessarily what you would expect.

– The first shocking moment was to realize some twenty years ago that there are people in Finland who don’t like melodic house noise and monsters. It was completely incomprehensible to me. In my world, everyone likes horror, everyone likes monsters, he remembers being amazed.

Mr. Lordi learned that it is not just a cliché to say that people are different and like different things.

The answer to the question of what Mr. Lordi is proud of in his life is clear: himself. That he has had 20 years to do exactly what he wants. About being his own boss. That he has succeeded. There has hardly been any need to bend to compromises.

– Even if I had a “real job” at Sale’s checkout, I would still do these jobs in the evenings. Lord’s target group is one person, myself. I do everything just to entertain myself. If someone else likes it, that’s only a plus.
