Ilmari Nurminen and his spouse Aapo Hettula are one of the competition couples of the Amazing Race program.

– Yes, here we go into our own discomfort zone, so new experiences are coming, Hettula tells Iltalehte at the program’s press conference.
It was obvious to Nurmi who he wanted as his racing partner.
– I wouldn’t even have gone on the show with anyone other than Aapo. We thought about it for a while and tasted it and finally decided that we would go along, says Nurminen.

Nurminen and Hettula are a couple who do almost everything together. They have two homes, one in Tampere and the other in Helsinki, besides which their everyday life is filled with shared sports hobbies.
Both believe that shared hobbies will benefit them in the competition.
– We have quite casually discussed the future, no major strategies have been made, Hettula reveals.
– We have exercised a little and rested, of course! Nurminen continues.
Casting
The other competition partners have told Nurmin and Hettula that they would never have entered the program with their partner. The married couple disagrees.
– We know each other so well that it is a big strength, Nurminen reflects.
– We do almost everything together, so you know each other inside out. That’s our advantage. Maybe some couples could argue in such a situation, but all other competition couples have the possibility of arguing, Hettula continues.
Nurminen was elected to parliament for the first time in 2015 from the ranks of SDP. In addition to his own career, he is also known as a close friend of ex-prime minister and former chairman of SDP Sanna Marin. In 2021, Nurminen received the name “Bile-Ilmari” on social media.
However, Nurminen will participate in the program without the MP’s cloak.
– I will only participate here as Ilmari and throw myself into the competition fully, Nurminen states.

Both Nurminen and Hettula hope to get to a destination they have never been to during the shooting of the program. Among other things, Mexico comes to mind.
– However, we are very open-minded. Even if we went to the Estonian side, that would be enough, Nurminen laughs.
The couple has a lot of competitive spirit, but the realities are in mind.
– Of course, we will go out to win, but above all we will gather experiences and go on an unforgettable journey together. We also want to encourage every competitor in that goal, Nurminen concludes.
