This morning around 6.30 am, a small moving van caught fire on the A1, near Bussum. The driver saw smoke in the cabin, stopped the car and got out. The smoke quickly turned into fire and eventually the entire car burned down.
The fire brigade was on site for an hour to extinguish the fire, says the Gooi en Vechtstreek Safety Region. Traffic jams quickly developed because all lanes were closed immediately. Not long after, the fire service reopened one lane.
Because the driver noticed the smoke in time, he was not injured. Police are investigating what caused the fire.
