The students of the Wedding Mold School have to stay at home longer and learn in homeschooling.
Actually, at least the 5./6. Classes are already moving five kilometers further this week from the contaminated Anna Lindh elementary school in the African Quarter to the former Air Berlin headquarters (Saatwinkler Damm).
The plan collapsed. Reason: no furniture! “New furniture has a delivery time of about five weeks,” says district office employee Henry Düring-Bienemann.
On Wednesday it will be decided whether a specialist company can clean part of the existing furniture from possible fungal spores. However, only furniture with smooth surfaces is suitable. Then they would first be transported to the new location and at least the older elementary school students could already move to the first floor.
Too high a concentration was measured in the stairwell and in the corridors in May despite renovation work.
The district office has leased the 15,000 square meters at the former airline’s headquarters for six years. It has not yet been decided whether the mold school will be renovated or demolished. Around 60 million euros are available.
