Professional cyclist Simon Geschke will end his career at the end of the year. The 37-year-old Berliner announced this on social networks.
“2024 will be a special season for me because I have decided that it will be my last as a professional. I am highly motivated to retire after a good year. So let’s go,” wrote Geschke, who has been a professional since 2008 .
Climbing specialist with a distinctive beard
The climbing specialist with the distinctive beard has been under contract with the French team Cofidis since 2021. Geschke had his most spectacular performances at the Tour de France. In 2015, wearing the jersey of the German team Giant-Alpecin, he won the mountain stage to Pra-Loup in the Pyrenees.
In the 2022 Tour, he rode in the mountain jersey for nine stages, but then lost it on the last difficult stage. The Corona drama of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo will also be remembered, when Geschke tested positive shortly before the road race and ended up in quarantine instead of starting.
Start of Tour Down Under
The Berliner starts his final season on January 16th at the Tour Down Under in Australia, and is scheduled to start at the Giro d’Italia in May. It is still unclear whether Geschke will make it to the Tour de France one last time.
