Moukoko’s future probably still open

Whether Youssoufa Moukoko will lace up his football boots for Borussia Dortmund in the coming season remains to be seen. The derby hero is said to continue hesitating to sign a new contract.

Youssoufa Moukoko had to wait 64 minutes in the Revierderby against FC Schalke 04 on Saturday before coach Edin Terzic finally let him off the leash as a substitute.

Exactly 15 minutes later, the 17-year-old scored Borussia Dortmund’s first and only goal of the afternoon – putting Signal Iduna Park in a state of collective ecstasy.

“I dreamed about it every day when I was young and I imagined what it would be like to score a goal like that in front of the south stand,” said Moukoko after the game, in which his goal ultimately made the difference in BVB’s favour.

Is Youssoufa Moukoko leaving BVB?

How long the storm child prodigy will continue to hunt for goals for the black and yellow is still in the stars. In 2023, next summer, Moukoko’s contract with BVB will expire.

After the Schalke game, sports director Sebastian Kehl once again expressed the club’s desire to continue working with the German U21 international.

“We are still the right club for him. Both parties know what they have from each other,” said the longtime BVB captain.

BVB: Youssoufa Moukoko hesitates with extension

Moukoko himself hesitates loudly “WAZ” but still with a signature under the Dortmund contract offer, which he is said to have had for several weeks.

“I’m not putting any pressure on, I still have time,” the young professional said about his future after the derby.

Moukoko made his debut for BVB in 2020 at the age of 16 years and one day as the youngest Bundesliga player of all time and also holds the title as the youngest goalscorer in history in the German upper house. In total, he has played 46 competitive games (seven goals) for the BVB pros.
