Moukoko fourth youngest DFB debutant in history – 8th novice under Flick

Against Oman in the starting XI

Youssoufa Moukoko made his debut for the DFB team in the last friendly before the World Cup in Muscat against Oman on Wednesday evening and, at the age of 17 years, eleven months and 27 days, became the fourth youngest debutant in German football history. The Dortmund attacker, who turns 18 next Sunday, is the youngest novice since Uwe Seeler, who made his debut in the national team in 1954 against France (1:3).

During the tenure of national coach Hansi Flick, seven players had previously made their debuts, Moukoko now followed in eighth place (to the statistics). The striker was among the biggest winners in the Bundesliga’s latest market value update, doubling his market value to €30m. Flick described the youngster when he was nominated as “fast, lively” and he had “a good degree”. In addition to Moukoko, Jamal Musiala (19) from FC Bayern is just another U20 player in the World Cup squad.

If Moukoko also plays in Qatar, he will become the youngest German footballer to ever play in a World Cup. The attacker set the age record in the Bundesliga with his debut for BVB on November 21, 2020 in a 5-2 win over Hertha BSC one day after his 16th birthday.
