According to media reports, Formula 1 wants to start with its own women’s racing series. According to the British BBC and the specialist portal motorsport.com, it should start next year. Accordingly, there should be 12 to 15 places for drivers aged 16 and over.

However, it is not intended to replace the W-Series. Due to financial difficulties, it had to end its racing operations early this season after the race in Singapore and was not able to start as planned this weekend in the support program for the US Grand Prix in Austin.

Hamilton for focus on women in motorsport

“There has never been enough focus on women in the sport throughout Formula 1. And now there is not enough emphasis on it,” said record world champion Lewis Hamilton (37) in the paddock in Texas about the situation and added: “There isn’t really a way for these young, great drivers to even get into Formula 1. We have to do more.”

According to motorsport.com, the planned new racing series is intended to pave the way for the young female drivers into Formula 3 and Formula 2.
