A motorist caused enormous havoc on the Rivierensingel in Helmond on Friday night. The driver swerved his car there and hit five parked cars.
“Around half past four at night we heard a huge bang,” says a local resident. Her husband then went outside and saw a man sitting intoxicated behind the wheel of the crashed car.
“The driver tried to run away after the crash.”
According to the local resident, this motorist came from the direction of the business park and drove towards the center. “It went wrong in the bend and he hit the five cars. Fortunately, our car was not damaged, but unfortunately our neighbor’s was.”
After the crash, the driver tried to run away, according to the local resident. But the local residents saw this and called him back. “The man then got back into the car. An ambulance came and ambulance workers checked the driver. The police also came. They took the man away.”
“The speed at which people drive here is abnormal.”
She doesn’t notice the crash. “It is almost a Formula 1 circuit at the bend at house number 223,” she says. “The speed at which people drive here is abnormal. I really hope that the municipality will do something about this. It happened here a while ago, when there was one in the fence.”
