The two women were on the scooter together when they collided with the man from Papendrecht in the night from Thursday to Friday. A 19-year-old woman from Alblasserdam died shortly after the accident and an 18-year-old local woman later died in hospital.
Drove on after accident
The driver of the car was uninjured in the accident. He drove for a few hundred meters after the collision, stopped and walked back to the accident site. Police said he had not used alcohol or drugs. The spokesperson could not share further details about what circumstances make the man suspected of manslaughter.
Friday morning there was also a shooting at a care farm in Alblasserdam. A 16-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman were killed and several people were injured. The mayor of Alblasserdam Jaap Paans called it a “black day.”
