On the Zomerdijk (N375) between Meppel and Wanneperveen an accident happened just before 9 p.m. tonight, in which a motorist was killed. This happened after the driver crashed into a tree near Wanneperveen. The driver was the sole occupant of the car, according to police.
It is unclear how the accident happened, although no other road users were involved in the incident. Immediately after the accident, the road was closed in both directions to allow emergency responders to proceed and investigate the cause of the accident.
