The man lost control of the wheel of his car in the Robert Orlentstraat in Zandhoven and then drove into the canal. The driver was able to save himself from the sinking vehicle and swim to shore. The car sank to the bottom of the Albert Canal.
The fire brigade arrived on site with a team of divers to hook the car and tow it onto dry land.
