Motorist (23) died after crash in Helmond

The motorist who was seriously injured on Monday evening when her car ran off the road on Europaweg in Helmond has died. The police made the announcement on Tuesday morning. The victim is a 23-year-old Polish woman.

The woman was driving towards Helmond around nine o’clock when it went wrong. Her car was launched via a raised central reservation. It then hit a large ANWB sign, flipped over and ended up in a ditch via the central reservation on the other side of the road. The woman was thrown from her car.

Spectators
People who saw the crash immediately rushed to help and tried to resuscitate the woman. The emergency services soon took over this task. Several ambulances, the fire brigade and a trauma helicopter came to the Europaweg.

A large number of spectators quickly gathered on a viaduct nearby, according to a 112 correspondent. Because the woman was being resuscitated on the highway, the police sent these people away.

Critical condition
The woman – who was the only one in the car – was taken to a hospital in critical condition. She later died of her injuries.

The N270 was closed in both directions until after midnight so that the police could investigate.

To give evidence
No other traffic was involved in the crash. Police are asking anyone who saw the accident to come forward.
