Motorcyclist dies after serious collision at intersection in Vleteren

Just before 6 pm, a 33-year-old motorcyclist from Ypres drove along the Eikhoekstraat, the connecting road between Vleteren and Poperinge. At the height of the Koekuitstraat, things went completely wrong.

A vehicle with a French number plate pulled out of the side street onto the road. The Ypresling could no longer avoid the car. He crashed into the side of the vehicle with his motorcycle, only to fall heavily himself a few meters further.

Man died on the spot

The emergency services, including the fire brigade and an MUG team, quickly arrived on the scene. However, their many attempts at resuscitation were to no avail: the man died on the spot from his injuries.

The Eikhoekstraat was closed to traffic for a long time. An expert from the public prosecutor’s office was appointed to find out the exact circumstances of the accident
