A 26-year-old man was arrested after the fatal accident this afternoon at the Nicolaas Beetskade in Alkmaar. A child, now a five-year-old girl, was killed. The suspect is a resident of the city and was driving the motorcycle, police said.
The motorcycle driver hit the cargo bike in which the girl was sitting around 12:00 this afternoon. Many emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, came to the accident. The girl was taken to hospital, but eventually the help was of no avail.
The driver of the motorcycle was also injured in the accident, police said. The 26-year-old Alkmaarder has been transferred to the hospital. He was arrested and is later questioned by officers.
According to the police, the investigation into the exact circumstances is still ongoing. They call witnesses to the fateful accident to sign up. In addition, they would like to thank Alkmaarders: “Emphasily all bystanders and local residents who offered help in any way after the accident.”
