Even if the climate is still mild, the rain and cold will soon become masters of the weather. And it is in these situations that many motorcyclists and scooter riders decide to “suspend activities” for the winter. But before hibernating in the garage, there are some precautions to be implemented. Let’s see what they are.

Before the well-deserved rest, it is advisable to go to a washing station or, for those lucky enough to have space in the house, to the home washing. Therefore, cleaning all the external parts of the motorcycle or scooter, and then drying them well, allows the bodywork to face a long period of inactivity in the best conditions. To prevent some stains from becoming gangrenous, it is best to concentrate (perhaps with a pressure lance and a compressor) on the lower parts of the vehicle. It is also advisable to choose detergents that are not too aggressive, specific for metal or plastic bodywork and tanks, depending on the model of motorcycle and scooter that you own.

At the end of the wash, a good lap of lubricant is recommended in the area of the sprockets, so that the chain and the gears of the final drive are well cleaned and greased on the eve of the winter stop.

It is also essential that the battery is connected to a charge maintainer, to prevent it from being discharged during months of inactivity. The battery can also be removed from the housing on the vehicle and connected to the maintainer, if this is more convenient.

Ideally, the tires do not touch the ground when they are not in use. In this way, they will not tend to ovalize and dry out, and will be readily usable when restarting. To do this, it is advisable to place the vehicle on the central stand. If it does not have one, then it is necessary to move it from time to time, so as to rotate the tires.

Before hospitalizing him in a box in view of the break, it would be better if the vehicle was covered so that it does not become excessively dusty. Before this operation, it is better to remove any residual dust from the vehicle with a woolen cloth, and then cover it in the most appropriate way.
