The summer market for motorized two-wheelers in Italy oscillates between stagnation and setbacks, in percentage terms. After two months of essentially static trend, registrations of mopeds, scooters and motorcycles in July show a 7% decline compared to the same month of 2021. However, numbers that the sector does not read only in a negative way. The president of the association Paolo Magri explains this in the monthly Confindustria Ancma (National Association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories). “What we are commenting again today – reads the note – is a scenario with which the sector has been living for a few months. We are not actually witnessing a worrying drop in demand for two-wheelers, but the consequences of global supply problems, which at this stage weaken the overall availability of vehicles and still distort the real potential of our market ”.

A total of 32,897 new vehicles were put on the road in July, 7% less than in 2021, which could however count on one more working day. The scooter segment dragged the market down, with 17,046 vehicles registered and a decline of 9.2%. The loss of motorcycles was more contained (-7.5%), which number 13,185 vehicles. In contrast, the mopeds that, thanks to the thrust of the electric, grow by 12.5% and record 2,666 units.

It still holds the annual cumulative, which, with 205,732 units, marks a decline of 2.8%. The performance of scooters and motorcycles is different. While the former, in fact, collect a loss of 10.6% with 99,068 vehicles registered, motorcycles, thanks to the 92,356 registered vehicles, recorded an increase of 3.9% compared to 2021. Excellent performance of mopeds, which grew by 18.3% and place 14,308 units on the market.

The race of electricians continues, which, in the month of July, grew by 79.4% and registered 2,184 vehicles. The annual cumulative trend was similar, with 11,356 vehicles placed on the market, corresponding to an increase of 81.7%. The scooter segment was particularly lively which, with 6,644 units, nearly doubled compared to the previous year (+ 97.4%).
