An officer in Emmen was injured yesterday afternoon after he was attacked by a group of young people. The motorcycle police officer followed a report on Huygensstraat, where young people on scooters would cause nuisance. When the man approached one of the drivers, because he did not have a scooter license and was driving without a license plate, he was surrounded by the group of young people.
They closed in on the agent and shouted, among other things, “get him”. People from the group started pushing the officer and beating him. He sustained injuries to his hand and back, and is going to report the incident. The police emphasize that violence against police officers will not be tolerated and have therefore launched an investigation into the incident.
After the officer threatened to use pepper spray, the group broke up. In the chaos that ensued, the seized scooter was taken by people from the group.
