The last lap was decisive: Martin led the race from the start and preceded Johann Zarco, Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio, but the reversal is lurking. To the hairpin of turn 4 on the last lap Zarco passes Martin on the inside who has to raise the bike, leaving a gap in which Bagnaia steps in. The Pramac Spaniard then also passed Di Giannantonio, at the third to last turn (10), and Brad Binder, entering the straight, for the final 5th place. In half a lap Martin therefore went from victory to 5th place, from a potential -9 in the World Championship from Bagnaia to a very different -27.
