The Spaniard, who has not raced since Mugello where he broke his tibia and fibula, will fly to Japan to try to get back on the bike and contest the last 7 GPs of the season before joining Yamaha next season
After 7 Grands Prix of painful absence, Alex Rins could get back on the bike in the Japanese Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend from 29 September to 1 October. The Spaniard had broken his tibia and fibula, also suffering some serious problems with his ankle, in the Mugello Sprint last 10 June and had to face an entire summer’s convalescence. The Honda Lcr rider has undergone two surgeries. Now the doctors at the Quiron clinic in Madrid have given him the OK to head to Motegi and undergo the MotoGP tests on Thursday: should he be deemed fit, he will be able to compete in the Grand Prix.

During the injury Rins wasted no time and managed to sign a contract with Yamaha, taking the place now occupied by Franco Morbidelli. The Spaniard therefore leaves Lucio Cecchinello’s Lcr after just one year, despite having a two-season contract. The latter, however, contained a clause that gave the former Suzuki the possibility of freeing himself early in the event of an offer from an official team. The possibility of competing in the last 7 Grands Prix between now and the end of the season will therefore help Rins to regain confidence with riding before moving to the official Yamaha.
