On his debut on the Buddh Circuit, best time for the Ducati VR46 rider ahead of the Honda Spaniard and Binder. 5th Vinales with Aprilia, 8th Martin, behind Pecco who dedicated himself to studying the track
Marco Bezzecchi stands tall, Marc Marquez recovers and Pecco Bagnaia waits. In Free Practice1 at the Buddh Circuit, which hosts the first Indian GP in the history of the world championship, the Ducati VR46 rider is at the top of the standings: in 1:45.990, a Bez who was immediately in form (the only one to drop below 1 ’46”) precedes the Spaniard Marc Marquez who, on a track unknown to everyone, evidently manages to contain the limits of his Honda, stopping 139 thousandths from the top. In the extra-large session, lasting 70′, the group mainly became familiar with a track dirty and where going off course means covering the tires with dust: from this perspective, Pecco Bagnaia’s performance, only 15th at 1″ should not be surprising. The Ducati world champion did not in fact use new tires and dedicated himself mainly to understanding the track without taking excessive risks.
two more Italians in the 10
—
Good approach also for Brad Binder, third with the Ktm at 0.320, ahead of Raul Fernandez (Aprilia RNF) by 0.381, Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) by 0.488 and Johann Zarco (Ducati Pramac) by 0.586. Two other Italians in the top ten: Luca Marini, seventh at 0.619 with the second Ducati VR46, and Fabio Di Giannantonio, ninth with the Ducati Gresini at 0.788. Completing the top-10 is Jorge Martin, Bagnaia’s first rival in the World Championship (36 points), eighth at 0.620 with the Ducati Pramac and Joan Mir, tenth at 0.815 with timid signs of recovery on the Honda Hrc.
slip
—
Many slips and falls in the gravel, which are inevitable when getting to grips with the new track. Michele Pirro ended up on the ground; Brad Binder; Takaaki Nakagami, author of a long slide on the run-off area of Turn 1; Pol Espargaro, twice. Inconvenience for Fabio Quartararo, held back by problems with the clutch of his Yamaha and only 19th. His teammate Franco Morbidelli is 21st, while the second Aprilia, that of Aleix Espargaro, is thirteenth. Alex Marquez, 14th with the Ducati Gresini, and Jack Miller, 16th with the Ktm, were not brilliant.
