Jeffrey Herlings will no longer be competing in MXGP this season. The motocross rider from Oploo announced this on Tuesday. Herlings will soon be operated on for old foot injuries and will therefore not be able to participate fully for the championship in the coming period.
Things are not going well for the five-time world champion. Herlings already missed the start of the season after he broke his heel or heel bone during a training internship in Spain. The motocross rider was operated on, but he still suffered from pain.
After extensive research and deliberation with his team in Austria, Herlings chose not to compete in the MXGP on Tuesday. He goes under the knife again, also treating another old injury. A possible trip to the American AMA Pro Nationals, which he thought of as an alternative, is also off the track.
Get fit and pain free
“I wish the situation were different,” Herlings said. “It is very frustrating that this is happening to me, but also because of old problems I am not fit enough to race at the highest level. My only goal now is to get fit and pain free and to prepare for the 2023 season. “
