Motocross racer Jeffrey Herlings retires due to technical problems

Motocross rider Jeffrey Herlings retired on Sunday in the second round of the French Grand Prix. This was due to technical problems with his engine.

Herlings fell behind remarkably quickly in the early stages of the second moto. He had problems with his goggles. After he had exchanged it for another one, his engine also turned out to be out of order. He then had no choice but to park the motorcycle in the riders’ quarters.

The record winner from Oploo had finished second in the first round, but due to his zero score in the second heat, the day result was no more than ninth. With this he lost a lot of points for the MXGP world championship. He is still in second place in the World Cup standings, but his Spanish rival Jorge Prado has run further. The difference between the two motocross racers is now 24 points.

At the beginning of May, Herlings won the Spanish Grand Prix and recorded his 102nd GP victory. The five-time world champion (twice MXGP and three times MX2) is now the motocross racer with the most grands prix wins.
