Moto GP: Yamaha race director thought of resigning

Lin Jarvis has led Yamaha’s MotoGP project for 20 years. The now 64-year-old has already given some thought to his resignation in recent years.

Before Fabio Quartararo’s title win last season, Yamaha were going through difficult times. This phase did not leave Lin Jarvis unaffected.

“I’m tired,” admits Jarvis in an interview with “Motorsport-Total.com”. “The coronavirus pandemic has brought us a lot of additional work. At the same time, it has lost some of the fun. We can no longer go to restaurants, there are many restrictions and we can no longer invite guests.”

But it wasn’t just Corona that stole Jarvis’ nerves. “The problem with the valves was also really exhausting. This year we also had to deal with Maverick’s (Vinales) case,” said the Yamaha race director, naming two other unpleasant events.

From a sporting point of view, the 2021 season was a great relief. The last title to date for Yamaha was secured by Jorge Lorenzo in the 2015 season. But at that time the celebrations were limited. This was preceded by a controversial title duel with Valentino Rossi, which produced a number of losers, but hardly any winners.

A few mixed years followed from 2016 to 2020. There were a few issues with the development of the M1. “Fabio’s title was, in a way, the reward for that effort,” notes Yamaha race director Lin Jarvis.

“I’m still motivated to do my job. But good results are crucial. I’m 64 years old and have three or four years to go, I think. My goal is to get ten titles. I would like to celebrate two more titles and then step down, “said Jarvis about his future.
