Mother’s Day: hi-tech gifts to make geeky moms happy

THEMother’s Day is celebrated on May 14, an anniversary that dates back to the times when Mussolini introduced a particular celebration which, initially, was called by the name of National Mother and Child Day. It was none other than Mother’s Day, which was celebrated, for the first time, on December 24, 1933.

During the first editions of this anniversary, the Duce decided to also reward all those women, obviously mothers and grandmothers, who had made a significant contribution to the whole country.

At the end of the Second World War, Mother’s Day took a back seat and was not celebrated for several years. The reintroduction of this holiday took place in 1956 at the hands of the senator and mayor of Bordighera and the President of the Flower and Ornamental Plant Fair Authority, who celebrated Mother’s Day during the second Sunday of May initially at the Zeni Theater and later at the Palazzo del Parco.

This change in the date occurred substantially for two reasons: the first was to try to increase consumption, which in the May period were very low also due to the post-war period, the second was due to the fact that the Church wanted to prevent Christmas from being shared with other holidays.

From that year on, Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
