The mother of the baby who died in the application center for asylum seekers in Ter Apel has engaged Amsterdam lawyer Richard Korver.
They do not accept the conclusion of the Public Prosecution Service that the baby did not die as a result of a criminal offense.
According to lawyer Korver, that is “a very strange decision by the Public Prosecution Service”. “That there is no unnatural death and therefore not a criminal offense is too simplistic. For example, it cannot be ruled out that the child suffered from a disease that should have been noticed. After all, the baby was entrusted to the care of the State.”
According to Korver, the Public Prosecution Service refuses to give the autopsy report to the mother. She can have access, but according to the lawyer that is not an option.
Language she doesn’t master
Korver: ,,Then a widow who is completely upset by the loss of her child has to read an autopsy report in a language she does not understand. We also want to be able to present the autopsy report to a number of other doctors.”
Korver has asked the Public Prosecution Service in a letter to reconsider that decision.
