The TV program What are they doing it for? follows four families who have to get by on different monthly budgets for six months. Their cash flows are closely monitored, because exactly what comes in and what goes out? Nadia’s family, in particular, continues to baffle viewers.
Sustainable living in a tiny house
Nadia lives with her three children in Hengelo and has to survive on € 1660 per month. With her participation she wants to show the Netherlands that you can little money can be happy. She also wants to inspire people in the field of sustainable living. She herself lives with her children in a tiny house that is not connected to the mains or sewage system.
Stunned Reactions to Nadia’s Income
In the latest episode it can be seen that Nadia has an amount of € 3,285.62 in her account at the beginning of the month. As child benefit she receives € 770.97 per quarter. Furthermore, Nadia does not work and receives a benefit of € 973.26. Viewers think it’s crazy that Nadia has so much money in the bank, while she doesn’t work but gets money from the government every month. “I don’t think it’s normal from Nadia. € 4000 in her account with benefits while she can work as a teacher and also as a hairdresser,” writes one viewer. Someone else responds with, “She just gets it. For someone who does not work, this is a high income. Starts the month with € 3285. I have never started the month with that.”
More than 4K at the end of the month ??? With benefits??? I wish I had it at the beginning of the month. How ? #whatthey’re doing

Nadia has a low income ? She just gets it. For someone who does not work, this is a high income. Does the month start with 3285 ? I have never started the month with that! And I just work! #whatthey’re doing pic.twitter.com/g2JRlyqGkJ

Nadia is homeschooling
Furthermore, Nadia teaches her three children at home. So they do not go to school, but receive math and language from their mother every day. Nadia has done the teacher training college and according to her education is in her blood. “My brother also teaches education. My father too. So it kind of runs in the family.” Homeschooling has several benefits, says the mother of three. For example, she does not have to get up early every day. But that comment is not up to many viewers.
What are they doing it for?-viewers critical
“I really think it’s a form of narcissism to homeschool when it’s not necessary for medical reasons. How absurd is it to think that you as a parent have all the knowledge and insights necessary for the development of your children?” Another viewer wrote: “Nadia: ‘Unfortunately there is no subsidy for home education’. As if you don’t already receive enough.”
This second season is really special. I am looking at half of the families with increasing astonishment… Why does Nadia have social assistance benefits and doesn’t she just work? As far as I’m concerned, benefits are definitely not intended for this. #whatthey’re doing

Why doesn’t Nadia just go to work. That self-sufficient life is apparently not so healthy either, know enough people over 70 who look younger than them. And what will become of those children? #bullying #whatthey’re doing

Nice stop with the benefits. Then she herself goes to class quickly enough, and the children grow up normally. Two birds with one stone! #whatthey’re doing

You would say that Nadia can just teach at a school? Then she doesn’t need social assistance benefits either. Why does she choose home education? #whatthey’re doing

Is that really home schooling? Counting your chips all day and how often do you jump on the trampoline? And history, geography and spelling? It must be me, I don’t understand. Those tiny houses are cute by the way. #whatthey’re doing

Yeah Nadia, talk yourself out of it. Just because you don’t care about social contacts, doesn’t mean your kids don’t need them to find their niche in society. For example through school education #whatthey’re doing pic.twitter.com/cLeSEdceyW

Homeschooling (PO and VO) if it is not necessary for medical reasons, I really think is a form of narcissism. How absurd is it to think that you as a parent have all the knowledge and insights needed for the development of your children? #WhereDoTheyDoItFrom
