In the list of Bundesliga record players, Manuel Neuer is still exactly 100 games short of his indirect predecessor in goal at FC Bayern, Oliver Kahn. While the 35-year-old is in 24th place with 457 appearances, his current CEO made it into the top 3 with 557 matches behind Karl-Heinz Körbel (602) and Manfred Kaltz (581). In another statistic, however, Neuer can already catch up with the “Titan” this weekend.
Kahn won 310 times during his career in the German Oberhaus, in which he played for the record champions as well as for Karlsruher SC. No other Bundesliga professional has done this more often since 1963. On Saturday evening, Neuer can match that record in the home game against RB Leipzig – with Schalke 04 and Munich, the national keeper has won 309 times so far, on average he won more than two out of three games in the upper house.
New soon before Kahn? Players with the most Bundesliga wins
“He’s like Bayern Munich in terms of titles, personal awards and records. He is very, very greedy and shows no signs of tiring,” said Kahn last week about Neuer, who had already set the Bundesliga record for “white vests” from him at the start of the season in August.
A contract extension with Bayern until 2025 seems to be just a matter of form, there is no competition for the number one spot. So it seems inevitable that Neuer not only breaks the records, but also significantly expands them. In view of the fewer games played compared to Kahn, the record for most victories in the upper house seems almost unassailable. Here, Neuer has his worst competitor in his own squad.
Neuer & Co.: Players with the most Bundesliga wins, almost all at FC Bayern
In the ranking of players with the most successful Bundesliga appearances, Thomas Müller is another active professional lying in wait in third place. With 295 wins in 403 games, the quota is even a little better than that of Neuer. However, the offensive player can only overtake his team-mate if he is injured – even the three-year age difference is unlikely to mean that the keeper’s career ended earlier.
In addition to the two active Bayern pros, there are nine other former Bayern Munich players and world footballer Robert Lewandowski (266 wins) in the top 15. Only HSV legend Kaltz (291), Mirko Votava (237 for Werder and BVB) and Klaus Fichtel (232 for Schalke and Werder) made it between the ranks of FCB icons.
