Most awarded: what were the series of 2023

In its first year of broadcast on CBS, the Golden Globes They reached a total of 9.4 million viewers, an increase of 50% compared to the 2023 performance (NBC abandoned the broadcasts due to low ratings after the pandemic), according to the consulting firm Nielsen.

And in Paramount+the platform of the media conglomerate (which also owns Telefe), the Golden Globes also broke a record for the streaming service: they had the largest live audience for an awards ceremony, surpassing the 65th edition of the Grammy in February 2023, and also retained the first place in X trends (ex Twitter) almost 30 billion impressions.

In contrast, the 2023 ceremony, which was seen on NBC and broadcast on Peacock, had reached 6.3 million viewers, a figure lower than that of 2022. Then CBS became the new home of the Golden Globes, in a transition with a scandal that even threatened to put an end to the traditional award, in a general crisis for this type of awards that also includes the Oscars.

The 81st annual ceremony of the Golden Globes of course it had criticism, especially for Jo Koy (Marvel star), who made his first performance as a presenter with jokes that included his friends Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, as well as “Barbie” cast members Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Greta Gerwig.
The gala featured several first-time winners, including Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”), Kieran Culkin (“Succession”) and Ayo Edibiri (“The Bear”). AND “Oppenheimer”Christopher Nolan’s film, swept the awards ceremony (it is also a big favorite for the Oscars), taking home five statuettes.

It was the most for any film nominated this year, including best drama film. And the HBO Max series, “Succession”reigned on the television side, with four awards for its final season, including best drama series.

Diversity

The week that passed also brought the long-delayed awards ceremony Emmy for the 2022-2023 television season. The ceremony was designed as a tribute to the medium, and featured reunions of the casts of shows such as “The Sopranos” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” But the most notable point occurred in the rebound on networks due to the degree of diversity, and the focus it had on the speeches: it was addressed with humor.

Award-winning series

Jennifer Coolidge thanking “all the evil gays,” and Niecy Nash thanking herself and “all the black and brown people.” Two years ago, the hashtag #EmmysSoWhite It was a trend when the Television Academy did not give any important statuettes to people of color. But the trend changed and this year’s ceremony awarded a record number of other races in all the main categories: drama, comedy, series, reality and variety.

Quinta Brunson took the stage for her portrayal of adorable teacher Janine Teagues in “Abbott Elementary”. Ayo Edebiri won for her portrayal of young chef Sydney Adamu. RuPaul, the drag queen at the head of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”, won for Most Outstanding Reality Competition Program; and Lee Sung Jin, creator of “Beef,” scored a hat trick and took home three Emmy Awards for his outstanding limited series, directing and writing.

Award-winning series

Besides “Succession” took his final victory lap, including well-deserved honors for stars Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin. But it was the FX series (seen here on Star+), “Bear”, the one that swept television series: not only did it win the award for best comedy in its first season, but it won practically everything else: actor (Jeremy Allen White), actress (Ayo Edebiri) and supporting actor (Ebon Moss ), direction and screenplay (both for Christopher Storer). The series had also won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards for best comedy for its second season, which will go in search of other Emmys in September when it is the turn to award the 2023-2024 seasons.
