The Hicret Mosque on Rozenstraat in Hoogeveen and the mosque on Stadhouderslaan in Assen collect items for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Today, the mosques are open all day to collect winter coats, scarves, clothing, but also soap and sleeping bags. If everything is collected today in Hoogeveen and Assen, it will go to Hoogezand, to leave for Turkey tomorrow.
The earthquakes in Turkey and neighboring Syria have killed more than 5,000 people. Sunday’s earthquake near the city of Gaziantep had a magnitude of 7.8, followed by 120 aftershocks, including one measuring 7.5. The death toll is expected to rise further in the coming hours. The bad weather in the disaster area hampered the work of the rescuers.
